Pink Julep Reads: Room by Emma Donoghue

ROOM by Emma Donoghue is one of the best books I think I've ever read. I literally could not put it down and though I started this book about a week or so ago, I pretty much read the whole thing in 2 sittings.

ROOM is about Jack and it starts on his 5th birthday. Jack isn't your typical 5 year old boy. He lives in a room with his Ma. But they don't just live in the room, they are captive. They never leave. Because of this, Ma is very clever and has taught Jack that what's in the room is real and everything else is make believe. He even thinks that tv channels are different planets. They get by with just each other, planning a routine throughout the day including reading time, physical education, meals and craft projects.

I won't say why Jack and Ma are in the room or anything else, because I don't want to spoil the story for those of you who might want to read it. What I will say is that ROOM is a story about the undeniable love between a mother and child and the power of this love that gets people through even the worst of situations. ROOM is frighteningly realistic and unbelieveably touching. I highly recommend this book. It's the best book I've read in a long time.

I need something else to read now. If you've read anything good recently, leave me a comment and let me know!
