Texture on the Red Carpet

In the past few days, a lot of interesting textured frocks have appeared on the hottest starlets at events and premiers! I have to say, I love it! When I picked my wedding dress, the one thing I had in mind was texture! But beware, thick, heavy, textured fabrics can make you look bigger so only wear it on the parts of your body that you feel confident won't look heavier... For example, if you're a really chesty girl like me, wearing a tweed tank might make you look like you have carpeted uniboob. I think for most of us, the rule to remember is if you're wearing texture on top, keep it light and airy as possible and mix it with bottoms that aren't too busy and distracting. If you're wearing it on the bottom, it can be heavier, but the closer the fit, the more likely it is to make you look bigger than you are. If you're wearing a heavy tweed, a pencil skirt or mini is cute, but the most flattering look might be a fuller, longer skirt. Obviously a tweed suit is always classic and these rules don't apply to that. Tweed suits a la Coco Chanel most likely look good on everyone.

I absolutely adore Emma Stone in this textured mono-color paisley sheath! It's gorgeous, perfect for Spring and thought it has texture, it's light and airy!

I think Emma Roberts looks perfect in this ruffled mini by Burberry Prorsum! It's age appropriate and because the patterns are diagonal and meet in the middle, its very flattering!

I don't think it's the best look I've ever seen on Anne Hathaway, but I love the risk involved in this dress! The texture doesn't really flatter her upper body and because of the way the fringe is placed around the shoulders, she kind of looks like a linebacker, wearing football pads. However, this dress is fun, sparkly and makes her hips look va va va voom!

Alexis Bledel has the perfect body type for a tweed dress like this! And the belt cinches in what may have looked like a chunky undefined waist otherwise. Also, because her skirt is long and flowy, it doesn't make her look bottom heavy.
