Are you looking for a great beach read to add to your summer reading list? Beneath a Starlet Sky by Amanda Goldberg and Ruthanna Khalighi Hopper is perfect! You may recall their previous novel Celebutantes, which I reviewed last year. Click here to read that review.

Beneath a Starlet Sky is the follow-up to Celebutantes and I have to say, it's even better than the first book by the authors. Both books center around Lola Santisi, daughter to Paulie, an Academy Award-winning director and his wife Blanca, who bears a strong resemblance to Candy Spelling in character. In Celebutantes, Lola tries to get over her addiction to dating two-faced actors while trying a new career in fashion, working tirelessly to get a star to wear her BGF's(best gay forever) design to the Oscars. In Beneath a Starlet Sky, we catch up with Lola again, finding that she is now the CEO of Julian Tennant Designs, a struggling fashion company under the umbrella of LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy) and in constant competition with a young rival designer and reality tv darling, Chilli Lu (who seems to be loosely based on Christian Siriano). Lola's mother has begun a new project, Wristwatch Wives, a reality show about herself and a few other Hollywood wives (RHOBH anyone?) and Lola's brother is becoming the darling of Cannes. But will Lola survive in her own career and make it through the recession alive while remaining successful in the fashion industry? Will she be able to juggle her career in New York and her new relationship with a handsome doctor in LA?

Beneath a Starlet Sky is like having an invitation into the world of Hollywood! It's not only entertaining, but it feels like an educational crash course in pop culture! And who better to tutor us than Amanda Goldberg, daughter of film and TV producer Leonard Goldberg who started her career working in New York for fashion designer Todd Oldham and Ruthanna Khalighi Hopper, daughter of the late Dennis Hopper whose career includes acting and producing. Goldberg and Hopper have opened up their Hollywood lives for all of us to see what's in, what's out and how people live in the land of the rich and famous!

Beneath a Starlet Sky is funny, extravagant and an all around perfect summer read! I highly recommend it for anyone who loves pop culture, reads People Magazine religiously, watches Keeping Up With the Kardashians or Project Runway more than the news, worships at the altar of fashion and enjoys a great story with inside knowledge celebutante life!
