Pink Julep at the Movies: Goodfellas

I have always wanted to see the film Goodfellas and tonight we rented it. One of my college acting professors did a small extra role on the film and I had heard how great it was. It is an EXCELLENT film! This movie came out when I was 9 years old, so like me, many of you may have missed it because your parents didn't think it was appropriate for you to see such a graphically violent mafia film with the F-bomb being dropped every 5 minutes. Well, if you're one of those people (like me!) then get thee to a Blockbuster and rent it! It's fantastic! The costumes are fabulous, the music is well-chosen and the performances are unbeatable! Ray Liotta (a fellow UM alum) is stellar among a cast that includes Lorraine Braco, Joe Pesci, Robert Deniro, Paul Sorvino and Debbie Mazaar. Also, if you saw the film Blow with Johnny Depp and liked it, you'd like Goodfellas. It's a similar type of film, also based on a true story.
Henry Hill is a teenager when he gets involved with the local gangsters in his primarily Sicilian neighborhood in Brooklyn and he loves the life, especially the perks. He doesn't have to go to school, he has more money than his parents and he finds a place where he belongs. But eventually, all good things must come to an end. Goodfellas is the story of the rise and fall of Henry Hill as one of the most noteable gangsters in American history. It's a really good film and I highly recommend it!
xoxo,
Pink Julep!
