Fall is at the Front Door..
Time to gather up all the bits and bobs from summer and batten down the hatches for winter..
we live in a snow belt, which is superb for skiing but means that
usually we will have had at least one snowfall by Hallowe'en!
We end up putting up the Christmas wreaths and so on ridiculously early
because it's really just too cold in December..
the neighbours don't mind - they do the same!
But that means that fall decorations have a relatively short lifespan, so I don't go overboard.
Yesterday I potted a Mum out front, spiffed up the wreath on the front door,
and added some stems to the vase in the front front hall..
Although I love the look of urns, everyone has them,
and I've never been one to want something everyone else has ;)
so I usually keep a low wide pot here with something seasonal.
love a simple wreath..
The Begonias are a wee bit overgrown :)
Will replace these with some tall wheat sheafs in the next couple of weeks..
Was at the dollar store grabbing school supplies for the kids and found these stems - $3! Love it!
The doggies were following me around, so thought you might like to see a pic.
Don't mind the enormous vent under the table - had a beautiful old basket there for umbrellas
but our canine companions were left alone a bit too long one day and decided to "play" with it..
will replace shortly, hopefully it will last a bit longer this time!
D. and I both have businesses based out of the house, so we are home with them the majority of the time, and they are spoiled rotten with oodles of attention.
Do you switch up any decorations as the seasons change?
Here is some inspiration I found..

Yay or Nay: Asian-inspired textiles
Interesting color combinations and stellar patterns have
Asian and Asian-inspired textiles climbing my love list.
And what better way to bring in a bit of fun than a pillow?
One-of-a-kind accessories are always better -
none of us want the same pillows as their neighbour, do we? The horror!!
so here's what Etsy has to offer....
What do you think?
Are you feeling the love?
Happy weekend! How did we get to friday so fast?!!
I will be working with a local builder all weekend -
but hope you all manage a bit of time to relax and enjoy the last days of summer...
will catch up next week... xo

Etsy Artist: Yellena James Bringing Pen and Ink To Life
I love Japanese art..
"The Great Wave of Kanagawa" by Hokusai
is one of my favourite pieces of art - ever.
![[800px-The_Great_Wave_off_Kanagawa.jpg]](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSX4R-xHGpnoCLjR0UPAGHe6NVH8jkA4rbfFn_yTDPv9RKM73xZ5BRSvmtyaIc_h3pMvrtGtxqIyd0bcvMmZ56tysYlCOjBz-k6Maa0MIG1vxkkgMe_NIKzNkSQgW1-VzcTKzx_h1Exdc/s640/800px-The_Great_Wave_off_Kanagawa.jpg)
I actually have a print of this work and four others waiting to be framed for my living room..
There's something enchanting about his style, such movement and emotion captured so delicately.
So when I found Yellena James work on Etsy I was instantly taken in..
After reading her profile I discovered she has produced works for Anthropologie - of course!
She works with pen and ink and marker.. such simple tools to create these richly detailed drawings.
These hard-edged geometrics worked in are unusual in her pieces -
they add a more surreal vibe, don't they?
At the moment she is having a print sale,
so mosey on over to her Etsy shop and splurge!
Your walls will thank you :)
I had a few minutes yesterday to peruse Etsy and found some outstanding fall clothing -
try to share this weekend..
Off to back to back bbq's this weekend - trying to squeeze out every last drop of summer.
What are you all up to?
til next time..
string art revisited
Remember string art?
I am probably really dating myself here, but at one point
almost everyone I knew had some hideous version of a schooner or the like hanging in their rec room.
But I found a crafter on Etsy that is bringing string art to a new level.
I give you... California.
some witty examples for a kids room....
or the kitchen...
(mangia means eat in Italian, and it was the first Italian word I learned growing up :)
I don't know if you ever dined with a large group of Italians,
but always, ALWAYS, you are being urged to "mangia, mangia!")
Anyhoo, pretty cool take on string art, no?
How many of you are already thinking about that extra bit of wood in the garage,
plotting out a project?
I know I am!

Beautiful Storage! Bamboo Hive Cabinet from Etsy
Etsy is a treasure trove for accessories and apparel,
but I never really think to look on there for furniture.
That really should change..
a little bit of sculpture for your space.. made of bamboo..
the backs of the cubbies are finished with a color called "Tequila Lime" -
who could resist that?!!
This husband and wife team, Alexandra Snook and Edward Way,
will customize this to any size, finish you prefer..
a wall of these would fantastic in a dining room in lieu of a china cabinet..
they'd be wonderful beside a fireplace, wood and books tucked in..
a smaller configuration would work for really interesting bedside tables..
I'd love to see them built around the flat screen in a family room, hint hint!
Think I may spend some time exploring the furniture side of Etsy..
hope you guys are having a great weekend -
BBQ no. 2 for us today.. I love summer!
til next time..
