I finally got away from the madness of cleaning and packing for a few hours to go see Eat Pray Love and I have to say, this film was just what the doctor ordered! I've been having a little case of the nerves about our move lately. London is so very far away from everything I've ever known and all the comforts of home. 
This film is beautiful! It's as visually pleasing as it's very important and spiritual messages!
I personally feel that every female over the age of 25 should have to see this film. It applies to all of us, even if we love our lives, husbands, children, jobs... it is easy to lose balance of all the wonderful aspects of life that we try to juggle... and the first ball we drop is usually ourselves.
Over the weekend we headed east to the Southwark area near Borough Market and we found a little treasure. As soon as I wondered onto the street for the first time, I immediately recognized where we were and shouted "Bridget Jones!" Pictured above is the flat where Bridget lives in the film Bridget Jones's Diary... one of my all-time faves!
I recognized this sign from the film... yes... I've seen it that many times!
The flat is above a pub called The Globe. It was closed or else we might have wondered in for a pint or two...
My husband was pretending to be Mark Darcy... he was quoting the film left and right. It was fun and I'm so glad we got to see it!
Photo Credit: www.thehollywoodgossip.comI just watched The Last Song starring Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth and Greg Kinear. It wasn't awesome, I have to say. It was entertaining and full of "young love" as one would expect from a Nicholas Sparks story, however I feel like this movie was basically The Notebook without the war and with a musician instead of a lumberjack. Pretty predictable and didn't bring out the waterworks like A Walk to Remember, Dear John or The Notebook... so really, what's the point?
Miley Cyrus is one talented gal, though I will say, perhaps she should stick to music... I found her to be very rigid in her performance and unaware of how she looks on film. She is gorgeous, but a lot of times her face contorted in funny ways and I found myself distracted, wondering if she's now embarrassed when she sees the film. But ya know what? She's a bajillionaire teenager, very young and I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing a lot more of her... she has plenty of time to learn, however I seriously doubt she'll be getting any nominations for this particular performance.
My official statement is this... glad I rented it, but it wouldn't have been worth the $25 in the cinema. Did you see it? What did you think?
A long time ago I bought Impromptu from I-Tunes because it was like $5.00 and looked interesting! Sometimes I love watching the older films I missed along the way and Hugh Grant and Judy Davis look soooooo young on the cover I decided to get it. I didn't watch it until last weekend though... I just never got around to it.
Impromptu is the story of George Sand, a lady author who is actually named Aurora, but for some time has dressed as a man and taken a man's name. She is rumored among her peers to be a loose woman though she is highly respected as an artist. She comes to know iconic composer and pianist Frederic Chopin and falls in love with him even though he is a fragile, sickly, strange man.
The characters in this film are all of historical merit, being artists, writers and composers whom you will recognize. The cast is amazing and includes Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters. Though I wouldn't rate this as an amazing film, it is beautiful and the story was unknown to me before seeing it. I would recommend this film to anyone who loves historical dramas or classical music. It's not a must-see, but definitely worth your time should you ever come across it and for $5.00, it was certainly worth the price tag for me.
We also did some shopping this weekend! I cleaned up on the sales at Monsoon and Anthropologie! Most shops in London have done their final reductions for their summer sales and I got some really good bargains! I also had a very big moment in a gal's life... I bought my first cashmere sweater from Brora over the weekend! I have to say, I keep going back to my closet to touch it! It's so soft! I can't believe I've never bought cashmere before and now I fear I'll be a spoiled brat about my sweaters in the future! It's lush!
And here is my outfit from Friday. I was so comfortable with this casual Friday ensemble! I have to say, I really love my Lucky jeans!
I shortened my scarf by tying a knot in the center, putting that in front on my chest and wrapping it around my neck and tying one more knot in front. It made the scarf sort of necklace length. I think this is a cute look and it's easy to keep on this way... no retying or re-draping throughout the day so it's really low-maintenance!
I rented The Runaways as soon as our Blockbuster put it on the shelf! I must say, I'm a sucker for a Rock and Roll biopic! I must say, this one is great and on the level of some of my favorites, including Sid & Nancy, 24 Hour Party People and Control. I really enjoyed this film, which is about Joan Jett's first all girl rockband, The Runaways. She was a young teenager when she embarked on this journey to rock and roll stardom and she became a legend! The film mostly centers around the relationship between Joan Jett, played by Kristen Stewart and Cherie Currie, played by Dakota Fanning. I swear, that Dakota Fanning is one talented 16 year old and I wanna be her when I grow up! You can never go wrong renting a flick that she's in because she picks such great films to be in! Fanning and Stewart deliver amazing performances in The Runaways! Kristen Stewart really captures the physicality of Joan Jett and surprisingly, I think she only bites her lip or sighs once or twice in the whole film! She's really good! And Dakota Fanning shocked me to death with her portrayal of a sexually active junkie, writhing around in a corset hopped up on God knows what! All in all this is a great and fun film! Good Saturday night entertainment!
My favorite scene is when Fanning's character dresses up like David Bowie for the school talent show. Amazing!
They really look like Currie and Jett! Kristen Stewart, who always looks thin, pretty and frail came off as strong and solid. I think she definitely has the makings of a good actress and we'll be seeing some great performances from her once Twilight is all done and dusted.
They actually sang some of the songs in the film. Dakota Fanning rocked Cherrybomb, a great but dirty song... GIRL POWER!
There was absolutely no evident weirdness in the sex scenes between these two. You can tell they were comfortable with each other... I suppose that would help?
Occasionally, my husband will beg me to go shopping or go to the spa so he can watch some horrendous, gratuitously violent manflick! I am generally happy to oblige! Especially after sorting through my make-up gear the other day and finding that I'm in serious need of an update! So this morning, I'm heading out to the duty-free shops to update my make-up bag and I'm planning to look for this:

Christopher Isherwood is most famous for writing Goodbye to Berlin on which Cabaret and I Am a Camera were based.
